This form of martial arts, which incorporates dance and music into its execution and style, is believed to have been developed by African slaves in Brazil. Some say that the use of this art form was to express rebellion in the guise of dancing.

The accompaniment music is an essential element of Capoeira because this sets the rhythm and mood of the capoeiristas as they execute their moves. The songs narrate various tales, such as a love loss, inspiring moments, or thanking the teacher of the performer. An assembly of instruments basically made of a type of conga drum, tambourines, and the berimbaus are used to create the tempo. The performers gather in a circle called a ‘Roda” and those who form the sides clap their hands while watching two capoeiristas in action.

At present, there are a growing number of people who have started an interest in this art. Its fluidity of movements and the attractive dance music make it a worthwhile workout for some. For others, it is an interesting performance that depicts the life and culture of the Brazilians.

The “Carnival” or “Carnaval” in Portuguese is an iconic festival which draws millions of viewers and revellers. Brazil is full of tourists at this time of the year and everyone is in a festive mood as the country focuses its attention to the celebration. The influx of visitors will, however, cause the rates of accommodations and other commodities to rise, so you might want to prepare a bigger budget.

Carnaval falls forty days prior to Easter Sunday, a Roman Catholic religious holiday where the devout start to abstain from meat. In fact, “carnival” is derived from “carnelevare”, which means “to remove or raise meat”.

The participants of the parades and presentations are majorly composed of hundreds of samba schools who are competing in music, choreography, originality, and style, among others, to win the coveted prize. The public are free to join and dance in the streets and follow the floats and groups as they play samba music.

Participating in this event will surely be a once in a lifetime opportunity for most. You can consider yourself lucky to experience this vibrant and exciting nationwide celebration.

If you are interested in getting to know the Brazil that existed when Portuguese explorers and the Western world had not yet discovered it, you can get to know its native inhabitants. There were thousands of tribes who lived in the country, each with their own tongue and culture. Originally, they were a semi-nomadic people who survived on fishing, hunting, gathering, and agriculture.

When the city dwellers and foreigners discovered the riches of the Amazon, the domain of these tribes were infiltrated and opened to the ways of the urban folk. Mining and rubber harvesting brought new settlers into the forests and affected the lives of the indigenous people. Due to diseases, tribal wars, as well as clashes with the “invaders”, the population of the tribes have gone down to a staggering number.

At present, there are some tribal folk who have migrated into the cities, while some have remained in their own areas. There are also still some who have not even had any contact with the “outside world”. If you would like to meet Brazil’s tribesmen, you can find agencies that can assist you.

Even when you are staying in the comforts of a fancy hotel, it is still advisable for you to take extra caution with your valuables and important documents. Before you leave for your trip, make sure you have photocopied your I.D.s and other forms of identification, your passport, plane tickets, and credit cards. Also, photograph your luggage and valuables and bring the pictures with you. Having these will make it easier for you to trace and claim lost items.

When checking in to the hotel, keep your luggage close to you at all times when you are not yet in your room. While registering, do not leave your credit card lying around the front desk and ask the clerk not to announce your room number. Make sure you instruct them to screen all calls before directing them to your room and to consult you before allowing a visitor to go to your quarters.

In your bedroom, keep your doors locked and look through the peephole before opening the door. If you are going out, deposit your valuables at the front desk and do not leave them out in the open if you cannot take them with you.

Famous for merriment and festivals Brazilians are stereotyped as a music loving people who have affected many genres all over the world. The greatest influences on Brazilian music come from American Indian, African, and European roots. The residents of Brazil have used these musical cultures and infused their own local flavour to come up with a variety of new styles. Some of the most popular types are samba, Bossa Nova, and lately, Capoeira music.

The samba is of African origin and is used as the theme music of the famous Carnaval. A collection of percussion and string instruments composed the first samba rhythms. Through the influence of the Americans, particularly after World War II, orchestras composed mostly of trumpets and trombones were added to the ensemble. Bossa Nova, a combination of samba and jazz, traces its beginnings to the beaches of Ipanema and nightclubs in Copacabana. “The Girl from Ipanema”, a Bossa Nova classic, is the biggest international Brazilian hit by far.

Indulge yourself in original Brazilian music to enjoy the flavourful culture of this colourful nation.

There are high cases of deficiencies, especially among children from lower-income families. Meanwhile, obesity is a problem for adults, adolescents and older kids.

These are said to be caused by energy-packed diets but the poor burning of calories. In order to cope with these health problems, the government is initiating several activities to help the people cope with lack of nutrition.

Experts and authorities are working to fight dietary deficiencies, focusing on practical interventions. They are also aiming to prevent disorders, wrong feeding, and inactive lifestyles. Programmes and actions are set up, revolving around activities that promote behavioural changes. They want to see enhanced physical activities and healthier diets among the locals.

In order to reach these goals, they conceptualised strategies within a given framework. There are now d communication campaigns for Brazilian citizens. Information interventions are also held within workplaces, health centres and schools. There are regulatory actions for food manufacturers like proper nutrition claims and labelling.

Lastly, there are several other implementations regarding the health and lifestyle of Brazilian people.

If you want to start a business in Brazil, it will be more helpful if you reside here permanently. You will be provided with a permanent visa if you are capable of proving foreign fund investment. The duration will last for 5 years, which has to be re-validated before its end.

After you have set up your company, you are required to hire locals for training and specialised labour. If you are able to accomplish this, you have to show proof to the country’s Federal Police. This will help you acquire visa re-validation.

Setting up an investment in Brazil requires other steps. First, you should have a local entrepreneur to represent you as partner. Next, register your company name and get corporate tax registration. You should also enlist with the country’s Central Bank to make foreign exchange easier. Then, open a savings account and deposit an investment plan. You will also need an RNE, which is an ID card for foreigners in the country.

If you are spending a weeklong vacation in Brazil, you can call up your friends and organise a party. To make it more enjoyable, there should be an endless flow of food and drinks. You can design a tropical setting in your holiday home by creating a cocktail bar. This way, you can have fun right in your house and beverages are just at arm’s length.

When setting up a bar, you can use a small part of your kitchen counter. On the other hand, you can dedicate an entire room. Complete the place with a dance floor and lighting system.
Next, you can equip it with electronics like a small fridge. Put up a shelf for the liquor and a rack for glasses. You have to stock on mixers, lemons, limes, olives, ice, and ice buckets. These are essential for creating the best cocktail mixes. You will also need a shaker, jigger and strainer.

With everything ready, you can hold a great party in your Brazilian home.

There are hundreds of tropical destinations in the world, and one of them is Brazil. This South American country boasts of diverse wildlife and virgin rainforests. It is home to the great Amazon River and it is widely popular around the world for the locals’ affinity to football (soccer).

If you want to travel to this country, the most common means of transportation is by plane. Airfare tickets are generally cheap after the Carnaval, during February to May and August to November. If you want to save up on plane fare, these months are the best ones for travelling.

You can travel by car, too. But destinations are limited to border crossings like Uruguay and Colombia. There are some towns that do not require exit or entry stamps in order for you to get into Brazil from other countries.

Travelling to the country can also be done by bus. There are long-distance services that connect Brazil to neighbouring nations such as Peru and Argentina. Some of the major capitals that are linked to the country through this service are Asuncion and Lima. These trips typically last up to three days.

Feel like shopping in Brazil? If so, here are some important information that can further make your buying spree a success. First off, Brazilian stores generally open at nine in the morning and close at seven in the evening, from Monday to Saturday. The supermarkets in the country, however, open at eight in the morning and close at ten in the evening, still from Monday to Saturday. These schedules are not that fixed though since preferences of shop owners and local holidays can affect them.

To shop in Brazil, you can usually use your ATM, credit and debit cards, as well as your traveller’s cheques. If you intend to pay in cash, the local currency is Real or Reais. If you need to avail of currency exchange services, just go to any bank or authorised travel agencies and exchangers.
